Lajoux is a common Suisse of the Canton of the Jura.
Geography
Lajoux is located at 11 km as the crow flies with the east-north-east of Saignelégier, in the district of the Frank-Mountains. Geographically, Lajoux belongs to the Courtine of Bellelay, to which also the villages of Bellelay belong, of Châtelat, Monible and Sornetan in the canton of Bern and the Genevez in that of the the Jura.The point low of the commune is on the brook Tabeillon , with 820 meters of altitude, and the point highest with the localities Combes , with: 1063 meters of altitude.
The hamlets of the Nasty tricks of Lajoux , of Paigre , Under-the-Cerneux and Fornet-Top also form part of the commune of Lajoux.
History
The first mention of the village goes back to 1404, under the name of Joux Mertenat . The hamlet of Fornet-Top goes up, as for him, with 1181.Of 1793 with 1815, Lajoux belonged to the France, in the department of the Mount-Terrible , then in that of the Haut-Rhin. Following a decision of the Congress of Vienna, in 1815, the common one was allotted to the canton Bern and was incorporated in the district of Moutier.
At the time of the plebiscites of 1975, the citizens and citizens of Lajoux chose to join the Canton of the Jura. Since January 1st 1979, Lajoux belongs to the district of the Frank-Mountains.
Economy
