The Laguna Urre Lauquén (pron.: ourré laukén ) is a not very deep lake of 90 km ² more or less, located in province Argentine of the Pampa. It is fed by water of the Río Desaguadero (called Chadileuvú here) which throws northern side to it. Being given the general dryness of the basin of the river, the irregularity of precipitations and the overuse of its water and those of its affluents for the irrigation, it very often happens that water of Desaguadero, finishes their course in the lagoon and lose themselves there by evaporation and infiltration.

Other seasons or other years on the other hand, following good sufficient precipitations in the area of Cuyo, the found abundance of water of the river makes him pass in addition to the lagoon and flow downstream, in the Laguna Amarga, or further still in the Río Colorado.

Etymology

Urre wants to say Brume in Mapudungun, language of the Indians Mapuches. Lauquén or Lafquén , toponym frequent in Patagonie means Lac . It is thus about the Lac of the Fogs .
