Laguna Mar Chiquita (Junín)

The Laguna Mar Chiquita , in Argentinian, is a lake located on the higher course of the Río Salado, not far from the town of Junín in province of Buenos Aires.

It is the first (upstream) of a chain of three not very deep lakes of which a part at least is on the territory of the Natural park Laguna de Gómez, in the partido of Junín. Two others being of upstream downstream the Laguna de Gómez and Laguna del Carpincho. It is largest of the three lakes with its 5  400 hectares of surface (54 km ², are a surface higher than that of the Lac of Le Bourget in France). Its average depth is of 3,5 meters.

It is located at 20 km. town of Junín, from where one can reach it by the provincial roads N° 65.

Its principal attraction is fishing. In its water abound the famous '' pejerreys '' " flecha of plata", the species of fish most important of the province, and strong appraisal by the gastronomes.

Laguna Mar Chiquita had remained until now in its state " naturel". Recently, of large work are in hand to fight against the floods which are one of the plagues of the Río Salado. They are to build good ten kilometers protective dams, and a small stopping provided with valves to regulate the flow of water towards the downstream, i.e. towards the Laguna de Gómez.
