Lagoa de Caverá

The lagoa of Caverá (“Lake French Caverá”) is a stretch of water located at the south of the State Brésil IEN of Santa Catarina, in withdrawal of the Littoral of the Atlantic Ocean.

Situation

It is skirted by BR-101 and 4 municipalities divide its banks (Sombrio, Balneário Gaivota, Balneário Arroio C Silva and Araranguá). It is located between the Lagoa de Sombrio and the lagoa da Serra.

Origin of the name

The name of Caverá comes from the indigenous word “Cáa-berá” which means “brilliant sheet”.

Characteristics

The lake measures 9 km length for 4 width. It communicates with the two close lakes.
