Comments

Helene feels forsaken by Jean her lover.

Not wanting to lose the face in front of this one, it to make him believe that it is it which moves away from the feelings what releases still more Jean.

This unfruitful tactic starts the balance of Helene, abandoned it wishes to be avenged via Agnès young unsteady dancer in the middle patient.

Agnes is projected in the universe of Jean at the time of a meeting to the wood of Boulogne arranged by Helene, mayonnaise takes Jean becomes insane in love and starts its car destruction.

The lighting of the face of Maria Casarès is sublime, interfering a point smiling on a dull face of woman frustrated by the abandonment of a lover it works pleasure and suffering. Helene while becoming livid takes the face of death.

Jean is handled, it becomes weak and automat between the hands of this machiavelic woman ruined by sorrow mélant smiles and tears on a devastated face.

This sculpture in Cocteau programmed for revenge is liked to see his/her former companion sinking in the meanders of a love opposed by Agnès who refuses by set of give up itself.

Agnes is a crane, Jean is unaware of it, Helene knows it, it carries out the debates by the lie towards a man who does not like it any more but remains extremely attentive with the councils of his former mistress.

The play becomes unverifiable, the scenario packs, the drama is profiled with far. Jean and Agnès in spite of to be trapped by Helene make the happy decision to build on an incomprehension of origin their futures.

This second opus of Robert Bresson assisted by the claw of the dialogs of Jean Cocteau seeming by the atmosphere of film to recover work with its advantage shows the unlimited capacity of a woman who by certain aspects adopts the face of death, which Cocteau included/understood, it will offer some years later this ambiguous role to Maria Casarès in “Orphée” whose “ladies of the wood of Boulogne” seems a preamble.

By moments, embrumés faces of the chief of work of Cocteau " The beautiful one and the bête" seem to take shape on the facies of Helene.

Its first name which one cannot dissociate from a Greek tragedy shows the destroying fury of a tueuse woman which has fun with its toys, of human neantized by Eros taking the form of the destruction here.
