Toponymy

The toponym Lacommande appears in the forms Hospitale de Faget and Domus Albertini (1128, titles of Aubertin), Espitau d' Aubertii (1344, notaries of Pardies), Commanderie d' Aubertin (1768, enumeration of Aubertin).
It comes from the commandery from Hospital of Midsummer's Day of Jerusalem created in Aubertin in 1128.

History

In 1128, a commandery of Saint-Jean-of-Jerusalem was founded on the commune of Aubertin. It depended initially on the abbey of Holy-Christine in Spain, then in XIVe century became the property of the Barnabite S of Lescar.

Religious heritage

  • the church Saint-Blaise, to Romance style, goes back from XIIe century and reflects hispano-Arabic influences. The apse is very richly decorated capitals representing Kings Mages and of the baskets furnished with animals (doves, owls, camels, monkeys and quadrupeds with head of man. The church was a stage on the Via Tolosane, name Latin of one of the four ways of France of the Pèlerinage of Saint-Jacques-to-Compostelle. The cemetery has tombs discoïdales.
  • Commanderie founded in 1118, classified with the historic buildings in 1962.
