Lacanau

Lacanau (in Gascon Occitan Canau ) is a common French, located in the department of the the Gironde and the area Aquitaine.

Its inhabitants is called Canaulais (be).

Geography

Lacanau belongs to the Landes of the Medoc. It is made up of several Agglomération S: Lacanau-city on the edges of the lake of the same name. Lacanau-ocean at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. This Seaside resort appeared at the beginning of the 20th century, was outlined during the interval wars and was developed in years 1960/70 within the framework of the installation of the coast Aquitaine. Multiple hamlets surround the Lac of Lacanau: Talaris, Moutchic (with balneal vocation), Tedey, Longarisse, Large Escourse, Carreyre.

One distinguishes four entities on the commune:

• the beach and the dune cord
• the city under the forest, with the image of the other seaside resorts of the Coast of Money
• the Forest of the Moors, which contrary to the remainder of Gascogne landaise, is not resulting from intensive timberings of the XIXe century
• the Lac of Lacanau, one of the Big lakes landais

History

• the economy of the commune before XXe is organized around the agro-pastoral system and of the exploitation of the resin.
• Seaside resort since the beginning of the 20th century. (Lacanau has just celebrated its centenary)
• Lacanau accommodates each August since 1979 a test of the Championnat of the world of surfing 20th century.
• the Surfing the oldest club in Europe: the Lacanau Surf Club is created in 1968
