La pieza y el conjunto

The Lycée Vauban of Luxembourg is the generic name given to the College and French Lycée of the Luxembourg, of this fact it is a French college abroad. Located at the Limpertsberg, district of the town of Luxembourg.

History

All started in 1985, when a group of French expatriates, feeling too far away from the Lorraine establishments, undertook to create an establishment ensuring a teaching post-primary education in conformity with the criteria of State education. The new school took the name of Vauban College in homage to the French architect Sebastien Prestre de Vauban which modernized the famous fortifications of the town of Luxembourg, when Louis XIV occupied the fortified town. Also, each year as the pupils grew, a new class was born. In 1984 opened the class of sixth, in 1985 that of fifth, etc So that for the first time, in 1992, of the pupils of the College presented the baccalaureat. The expansion of the college continued with the increase in the size of promotions, thus in 1996 the class of sixth is doubled. Moreover, the weak support of the French governments and Luxemburgish made support with the parents the greatest part of the operating costs of the college. Until 2003, the establishment was member of the AEFE for French Teaching abroad) http://www.aefe.diplomatie.fr/.

Following a law presented by Anne Brasseur (Minister for Luxembourg State education) and adopted in 2003, the Luxembourg Government was authorized to finance the private schools. From this date, the college is not any more but approved by the AEFE. Most of the school fees is financed thanks to subsidies of the Luxembourg state, the remainder being with load of the parents.

In spite of a recent removal in buildings placed at the disposal by the Luxembourg authorities, the latter are again too exiguous. The college is besides with a turning of sound existance. Indeed, the board of directors is preparing the construction of a new building. It will be the occasion to create a French-speaking campus in the Grand Duchy. This last will have a capacity of some 2200 pupils, and for the first time teaching will be ensured of the nursery school the final one. It will be built on a ground placed at the disposal by the Town of Luxembourg in the district of Gasperich. The Luxembourg Government will also contribute to the financing of this project.

On the level organization, the college is managed by a non-profit-making association. A board of directors made up of voluntary is elected by the members of association (all parents of pupils) as a general meeting for a 2 years mandate. It is the latter which manages the college and engages the personnel. At its meetings, it is assisted by the headmaster, the administrative reponsable, the elected representative of French of Luxembourg, the cultural adviser near the Embassy of France and the president of the association of the parents of pupils, knowing that the latter serve in only a one advisory capacity.
