LGV of the Estuaries

LGV of the Estuaries is a project of Ligne at high speed which would link between them the regions of the arc Atlantique (France), and would also link these regions to the South-east of France.

Southern section

Poitiers - Parthenay - Bressuire - Cholet - Nantes

This mixed section would have three principal utilities:

  • Freight: it would allow an rapid access for the Fret coming from the South of France Brittany and particularly the Port authority of Nantes-Saint-Nazaire: as for LGV Massif Central, this port could take part besides in the financing of this line.

Central section

Nantes - Our-Lady-of-Moors - Rennes

This section, probably reserved for the only TGV, would also have two utilities him:

  • TGV: it would make it possible to connect Rennes to the southern branch (towards south-east and south-west); to connect Nantes to the northern branch (towards the Normandy and the Northern of France); to connect Paris and south of France to Western Brittany via the connections of Massérac (the ways Paris - Quimper would be then a little bit shorter)

Northern section

Rennes - Transfers - Caen + a possible mixed skirting of Caen

Here still, this mixed section would cumulate utilities TGV (radial connections Brittany-Normandy-North, but also service roads towards Vire, Granville, Saint-Malo and the Mount-Saint-Michel), TERGV (connections Rennes - Caen, Rennes - Saint-Malo, Rennes - Mount-Saint-Michel and Caen - Saint-Malo.

Advance of the project

To date, only the central section Rennes - Nantes seems really taken into account by the policies, to serve the future airport of Our-Lady-of-Moors. The totality of the project is however included in the project of Transversale the Alps Auvergne Atlantique.
