LGV 2

LGV 2 (HSL 2 in Dutch) is a Ligne at Belgian high speed .

It is the second link of the Belgian project of lines at high speed also comprising LGV 1, LGV 3 and LGV 4.

This line connects on 95 km (61 km at high speed (between Leuwen and Ans), 34 km on modernized historical line) Brussels and Liege. It service entrance the December 15th 2002.

The LGV 2 is currently traversed by trains Thalys and ICE (to 300 km/h), as well as Intercity trains of the interior service to 200 km/h.

When its extension towards the Germany (LGV 3) is carried out, the unit will improve considerably times of ways between Paris, Brussels and the Germany: Cologne, Frankfurt, etc

Way

From the Station of Brussels-Midday, the trains use the underground junction North-Midday and cross the Gare of Brussels-Exchange and the Gare of Brussels-North. The line crosses with height of Schaerbeek the intersection towards north (Antwerp and the Netherlands).

Between Schaerbeek and Leuwen, the trains use the modernized historical line, having four ways, the two power stations being used at speeds of 200 km/h by the Thalys and ICE, and the two external ones by the local trains.

The line crosses the station of Leuwen to 160 km/h, a short tunnel and enters finally on the section at high speed skirting the highway E40 between Brussels and Ans on 60 km. This section is traversed at a block speed of 300 km/h, but also by express trains rolling to 200 km/h on the connection Liege - Brussels.

The site of maintenance of the line is installed near Ans, at the end of the section high speed. Years with Liege-Guillemins, the trains use the historical line modernized at varying 140 to 70 km/h.

The line uses the system of indication TBL2.
