LANDSAT
History
The program Landsat is one of the oldest programmes of observation of the terrestrial surface of the the United States. One of its primary goals was the evaluation of cereal volumes of harvest in the USSR and in the United States in order to anticipate the evolution of the courses, to even influence them if necessary.
Seven Landsat satellites were launched since the July 23rd 1972. The last, Landsat 7, were launched the April 15th 1999. The instruments embarked on the Landsat satellites acquired of several million images. They constitute single resources for the study of the climate changes, the land use, the cartography, the management of the habitat; like for many other applications in the fields of the Agriculture, the Geology, the Sylviculture, the education etc
Instrumentation
- Camera RBV ( Return Beam Vidicon )
- multispectral Radiometer ms ( Spectral Multi Scanner ) on Landsat 1 to 5
- Radiometer TM ( Thematic Mapper ) on Landsat 4 and 5
- Radiometer ETM+ (Enhanced Thematic Mapper More) since 1999 on Landsat 7
Sensors RBV and ms have a space resolution of 80 meters for one mown of 185 km. Landsat 3,4 and 5 have a band in infra-red thermics with 240 meters of resolution over ms and with 120 meters on TM.
The instrument TM has a resolution of 30 meters in the field of visible and infra-red (near and means) the, known as one the multispectral,
Instrument ETM+ of Landsat 7 has 8 wavebands:
