L5

L5 (for They five ) is a group of music French formed of the five girls which gained the first season of Popstars , an emission of musical TV-reality of M6. More than 10.000 people had taken part in the various castings organized by the chain.

Biography

Blazing beginnings

The five gaining, Lydy, Marjorie, Coralie, Alexandra and Claire “chose” the name of L5 in reference to casting where Alexandra carried the L5 badge. This name is also a word game, the group making up of five singers ( they five ). Some also saw there an allusion to the chain M6, which diffused the emission Popstars . Their first individual, All the women of your life , left in December 2001 and in the tread the emission, is sold to 1,6 million specimens (Disque of diamond). The sales of their first album, L5 , amount to 1,2 million, but the individual following does not meet such a great success: a spark is sold with 250.000 specimens and Question of survival to 70.000 specimens. If the album is composed of titles pop Swedish sails very about it then, it also contains original compositions of Doriand or Maxim Nucci, which carries it out, which distinguishes it from the first album of the Star Academy which leaves at the same time.

Whereas their career seems to be blown, the group enters again in studio in September 2002 to record its second album. Continuing on their impetus, one finds there adaptations of Swedish titles (among which Retiens me also adapted by the Spanish group Upa Dance under the title Once again , as Toujours there that they sign collectively), the resumption of the title Maniac (extracted the film Flashdance ) and some songs of Maxim Nucci and Thierry Samoy, author for the first album of Jean-Pascal.

The album benefits from the renewed interest caused by the diffusion of Popstars 2 and runs out with 500.000 specimens (platinum disc, of which an entry in first place of the sales of album). Four individual is extracted from the disc, without finding the great business success of the beginnings. The group is nevertheless really of return on the front of the scene. In April 2003, the girls double the French version of the film the Delajungle Family the film and their round of 25 dates in France, Belgium and Switzerland is a success. An album and a live DVD are carried out, but leave it during 2004 in a relative indifference. If the titles Always there and All the women of your life are a little diffused on the music channels (but primarily on Fun TV), no individual is published and the album does not exceed the 50.000 sales.

A missed return

To start again the interest of the fans, L5 are heroins of a cartoon, Histoires of them 5 which they present at the time of the 32 {{E}} Festival of Angouleme, in January 2005. The same month leaves their third album, Turbulences . The girls are, more still than on Retiens me , implied in the writing of the album, since they sign eight of the fourteen titles there. They give up also almost completely the Swedish titles there. The first extract, To disconnect , section thus clearly with the preceding titles of the group, by its sound Electro and its texts criticizing with covered words Lorie, Geostrophic or Britney Spears. The radios do not diffuse the title and it should be waited until June so that first individual, With your freedom , is really marketed. In addition, this title, devoted to the subjected women, attracts itself the lightnings of certain religious associations Moslem extremists. In October 2005, the title a woman in a hurry becomes the credits of end of the second season of the series Lea Parker , but only for 15 episodes and without marketing. With if little promotion, the sales border finally the 65.000 specimens.

In 2006, whereas the best off announced since months seems to be profiled, Claire announces that it leaves the group. They are thus logically only four in the clip of Walk like year Egyptian (begun again Bangles), first new of the compilation, which leaves in November 2006, there still without real promotion on behalf of the Universal recording company. The best-of is not present in any classification, and the girls announce their separation at the time of the Morning Café of December 20th, 2006 - to five, Claire having returned to support her friends in the last moments of the group.

The promotion of the best-of continues however at the beginning of 2007, in particular at the time of the twenty years of M6. It is especially the occasion for the girls to announce their desires to launch out each one in a career solo.

Girls band manufactured by a television program, L5 remained however a true group (contrary to the Whatfor - gaining following year, whose career stopped prematurely) and carries out each year in the concerts with the support of a rather active base of fans as the existence testifies some to many sites devoted to the group or his members. -->
