L.58 albatross

The Albatros L 58 is a German commercial transport aircraft of the Entre-deux wars.

This single-engined aircraft of commercial transport, monoplane with high wing cantilever and fixed traditional train, had an open cockpit installed in front of the leading edge, the passengers taking seat in a closed cabin. The first flight took place in 1923 and 7 specimens were built with two motorizations.

Versions

  • L.58 Albatross: 1 Maybach Mb IVa of 240 ch, installation for 5 passengers and 1 pilot.
  • L.58a Albatross: 1 Rolls-Royce Eagle VIII, installation for 6 passengers and 1 pilot.

In service

This apparatus was used by Deutsche Luftreederei and Deutsche Aero-Lloyd, companies which amalgamated in Deutsche Lufthansa in 1926. DLH seems to have used only two of these apparatuses, the last being broken with Essen in June 1928. 2 others were sold with the the USSR.
