Lône
A lône is a dead Bras of a river which remains in withdrawal of the bed of this river and is fed out of water by infiltration or period of rising, during which its layout can then be modified. The term lône was used at the origin for the the Rhone, but it is also extended to other rivers in particular the Isere.
One speaks about brotteaux to indicate the small islands (easily flooded, in constant evolution) formed by the lônes. And of vorgine to indicate the place where the “vorge pushes” (willow), vegetation characteristics of the lônes and brotteaux.
Rivers having of the lônes

- Isere: lônes of Francin, lônes of Pontcharra, French Wood.
Fauna
The lônes, with their stagnant water, present a rich ecosystem, and are the subject of initiatives of safeguarding.
Impact of the human activity on the lônes
Formerly filled or drained, the lônes are also victims of hydraulic installations which fixed and assagi the course of the rivers.
