Lítla Dímun
Lítla Dímun ˈdʊimʊn}} (in Danish: Lille Dimon , “Small Dímun”) is more the small island of the 18 Faroe Islands and is deserted permanently.
It was always uninhabited, because it is sloping and very difficult to climb. At the top a small plate is. The Mouton S are here 270 and the birds, in particular the Macareux, are very numerous.
Formerly, Litla Dímun was also the property of the crown. Since it was difficult to found a smallholding there, the king was solved to sell. Men of the island of Suðuroy, in particular of the village of Hvalba, rented and used the island, but in 1850, it was thus put on sale at the biddings with Hvalba. The manager of the subsidiary company of Kongelig handel of Tvøroyri raises against the men of Hvalba and Sandvík, which made single face. The price increased until the setting was carried by the men of Hvalba and Sandvík, for almost 5000 rbd. (approx. 1.300 €).
The island was at one time populated by a race of sheep which does not exist any more. They were small and rather similar to Chèvre S, with their black and short fleece. It was a race wild and very difficult to capture. A few years after the sale of the island, the sheep were cut down. Those which one does not succeed in capturing were killed with rifle shot. One finds with the museum Føroya Fornminnissavn of Tórshavn three empaillés animals of this species.
Since the shipwreck of a Norwegian ship , whose sailors had taken refuge on the small island, it is always left on the small island of coal, the matches, the cans and drinking water for possible other shipwrecked men who have suddenly failed themselves it.
This island counts a very large population of Macareux.
