Lípe
The Lípes are an Amerindian population of the south of the Bolivia and extreme north of the Argentine, in South America, very near to the Atacamas and now disappeared. They lived the area of the Puna and the Altiplano mainly in the north of the 22nd parallel and the east of the highest cord of the Andean tops, arriving to the Western valleys of the Département of Tarija in Bolivia and of the septentrional zones of the provinces Argentine S of Salta (departments of Santa Victoria and Iruya) and of Jujuy where they came into contact with the Omaguaca S or Humahuacas and the Diaguita S.
As well by their chalk-linings as by their source language, it is obvious as Lípes, and part of the chilchas or chichas, belonged to the unit lickan-antay , being one of partialities (tribes) important of this one. However, because of their geographical location in the corridor going since the Andean Altiplano until the area of the Chaco, they were subject to strong cultural influences since north. It was initially that of the culture tiawanacote or horizon Tiwanaku, and then the determining influence of the Tawantinsuyu or Empire INCA.
Such an amount of and so that Lípes as Chilchas was very transculturés by the kechuas or Quechua S. Among the principal aspects of this transculturation, appears the use of the language runa simi (or quechua) and the celebration of certain festivals resulting from The Central Andes (the Tantanakui , festival of the Pachamama, the Tinkunaku , the Corpachadas etc). So Lípes are accustomed to passing unperceived under the name of Collas or Koyas , denomination very hold-all which includes very diverse ethnos groups of the area of the Altiplano, Puna and areas close.
Toponymy
Lípes gave their name to the two Bolivian provinces of the Nor Lípez and Southern Lípez, in the Département of Potosí.
