Lévis-Saint-Name
Lévis-Saint-Name is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.
The inhabitants are the Levissiens .
Geography
The village belongs to the site of the Vallée de Chevreuse and is one of the communes of the Regional natural park of the High-Valley of Chevreuse. It is located in double foothills where are born and run the Yvette and her affluent, the Ru of Pommeret, below a plate in north where the communes of the Mesnil-Saint-Denis, Coignières and Essarts-le-Roi. are These foothills meet to form the valley of the Yvette in direction of south-east, towards Maincourt-on-Yvette and Dampierre.The communes bordering are the Mesnil-Saint-Denis in the North-East, Dampierre-in-Yvelines in south-east, the Essarts-the-King with the west-south-west and Coignières in the North-West.
The departmental roadway system limits to the secondary road 58 which crosses is commune according to an axis North-South, driving, towards north, with the the Mesnil-Saint-Denis and the Canopy and, towards south-east, with Dampierre-in-Yvelines and Chevreuse.
In the railway plan, the stations the closest SNCF are the stations of the Essarts-the-King, Coignières and the Canopy, all the three on the line of the Transilien towards Paris-Montparnasse, that of the Canopy being in more the terminus of the Transilien towards Defense and Paris Saint-Lazare.
Localities and variations
- Girouard is a small hamlet in the east of the village itself made up of some residences around the church; it is in fact the administrative center of the commune, accommodating the town hall.
- Yvette is a variation in the North-East of the village, being next to the Essarts-the-King and near the Trunk road 10.

History
The counts of Lévis-Mirepoix, lords of Lévis-Saint-Name, had received from king de France the stronghold of the Château of Montségur (Ariège) occupied by the Cathare S. After the catch of the castle in 1244, the possession of the pog returned to Guy II of Lévis, official lord of Mirepoix since the treated of 1229. It is its family which will build current the Château of Montségur.
Inheritance
- Our-Lady-of-the-Rock Abbey on the road leading to the Mesnil-Saint-Denis: founded by Guy Ier de Lévis towards 1196, this abbey dates from the beginning of XIIIe century and the home and commun runs of the beginning of the XVIIe century; the unit was registered with the Historic buildings in 1926 and shelters today an educational center and of vocational training.
- the parish church Saint-Name-and-Our-Lady was built in XIIIe century and somewhat altered with XVIIIe and XIXe centuries; it is located apart from the village, in a kind of clearing in the Saint-Beno4it cheese wood and is surrounded by some residences and of the cemetery; the site is classified.
- a strong Château was built in XVIe century with the locality Went It , restored in XVIe century then sold in 1721 with the count de Toulouse, Louis Alexandre of Bourbon, which made it destroy in 1727; the site was classified in 1980.
- the castle of the Lévis Court, with the locality the Court , was built at the any end of the XIXe century to the site of a castle of the end of the XVIIIe destroyed century; it is not registered with the Historic buildings.
- the castle of Boissière Beauchamp, with the locality Boissière , was built, at the origin, the beginning of the XVIIIe century, then destroyed to leave the place, towards the end of XVIIIe and the beginning of the XIXe century, with the current castle not registered.
- the castle of Crussol, with the locality the Receipt , had started to be built in 1506 and remained unfinished. There remain auourd' about it today only some ruins and of the ditches and firm was established with the site of the ex-castle.
