Léopold de Wittelsbach

Léopold de Wittelsbach or Luitpold de Wittelsbach (born the March 12th 1821 with Würzburg - died the December 12th 1912 with Munich). He was knight of the Ordre of the Golden Fleece

Wire of Louis Ier of Bavaria and Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

Léopold de Wittelsbach married in 1844 Augusta of Habsbourg-Tuscany.

Four children come from this union:

  • Therese of Bavaria (1850 - 1925), it entered the orders and was abbess with the Holy-Anne abbey of Munich

  • Arnould of Bavaria (1852 - 1907), in 1882 it married Therese of Liechtenstein (posterity)

After the tragic death of Louis II of Bavaria in the Lake Starnberg and the observation of the madness of the brother of this last, Othon, Léopold de Wittelsbach, their uncle, was named Prince-regent Royaume of Bavaria the June 10th 1886. It will remain it until its death in 1912 and will be replaced in this function by his son Louis de Wittelsbach (future Louis III of Bavaria).
