Léopold Flameng
Léopold Flameng , born with Brussels the November 22nd 1831 and died in Courgent in September 1911, is an engraver, illustrator and painter French.
Born French parents, he is the pupil of Luigi Calamatta and Jean François Gigoux. Its skill like Burin ist points out it by Charles Blanc and its collaboration with the Gazette of the Art schools ensures its reputation. He is medal-holder with the World Fair of 1878 and he is elected member of the Académie of the fine arts in 1898.
Known for its etchings according to Jan van Eyck, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Ingres and Delacroix, it illustrated several works on Paris as well as many literary works, among which those of Boccace, Paul Scarron, Victor Hugo and François Coppée.
Léopold Flameng had inter alia as pupils his son, the painter François Flameng, like Richard Geiger, Frederic-Auguste Laguillermie, Paul-Adolphe Rajon.
