Léopold Eyharts is affected at the office of the spationauts of NASA to the Johnson Space Center, Houston. He works on projects concerning ISS. It is expected that it accompanies the module by the European Laboratoire Columbus on board the Space shuttle Atlantis at the time of the mission STS-122 in December 2007.
Decorations
Léopold Eyharts was decorated with the Légion of honor, of the National order of the merit and the Médaille of Overseas. It also received the Russian medal of the Friendship and Courage.
Experiment of soldiers and flight
It joined the Flying school of Living room-of-Provence in 1977 and received an aeronautical diploma for the occupation of engineer in 1979. In 1980, it became pilot of combat and was affected at an operational squadron of Jaguar of the air base of Istres (France). In 1985, it was affected as a commander of escradrile to the air base of Saint-Dizier.In 1988, it received a diploma for the occupation of test pilot of the French school of test pilot (EPNER) and was affected in the flight test center of Bretigny close to Paris. Career with CNES and ESA
In 1990, Léopold Eyharts was selected as an astronaut by CNES (the national center of Space studies) and assigned to support the program of spaceplane of Hermes controlled by Hermes to be used as team-member the office with Toulouse.It became one of the test pilots responsible for the parabolic programme of flights of CNES, an experimental plane (Caravel) arrived by the center of test of flight of Bretigny to provide a laboratory of microgravity to the scientific community. It is expected that it is launched on December 6th, 2007 on board STS-122 towards the international space station, where it will join the Expédition 16. It will take part in the installation of the European laboratory Columbus. It will turn over on ground with the mission STS-123.
