Léda is a Natural satellite of Jupiter.

Denomination

Léda bears the name of Léda, character of the Greek Mythologie; Léda was queen of Sparte, mother - inter alia - of Helene whose Zeus (Greek equivalent of Jupiter), in the form of a swan, was the father.

This name was adopted formally by the international astronomical Union on October 7th, 1975 after being proposed by the discoverer of Léda, Charles T. Kowal
