As of the 15th century Lébous, called Barbeçin by the navigators Portuguese, is present on the Presqu'île of the Cap Verde. Lébous result from a group of Wolofs which, after the bursting of the empire of the Djolof, considered that they were not there any more in safety. For this reason, they fled Djolof to settle with the Cayor where they carried out a hard battle against the Damel of Cayor, Ngoné Ndella Coumba Fall, which finally yielded to them the peninsula of Cape Verde in 1812, thus melting the republic léboue with like Ndakarou capital, place where was going to be built later the town of Dakar. Lébous constituted a republic with an original system of division of the capacities between Large the Serigne, higher chief of the Community ( Seriñ Ndakaaru ), the National parliament and the local assemblies (the peñc ).
