Kyuss

Kyuss is a group of Stoner rock'n'roll originating in Palm Desert in California, the United States.

Formed in 1990 the group is composed of John Garcia (song), Josh Homme (Guitare), Nick Oliveri (low) and of Brant Bjork (battery). Playing all around the south of California, often at the time of festivals in the desert called generator left because of the use of generator for the power supply of the instruments.

Josh Homme is known to play of the electric guitar through a basic amplifier to create a major sound. The original name of the group, Sounds Off Kyuss, comes from the name of a monster in the roleplay Donjons and Dragons. Sons Of Kyuss Off leaves in 1990 the EP Sons Kyuss (with Chris Cockrell with low) then shortened its name in Kyuss. The group (with the bass player Nick Oliveri) leaves its first album Wretch in 1991 on the label Dali Records, but the sales are weak in spite of the increasing fame their concerts.

Their second album Blues for the Red Sun is produced by Chris Goss. Acclaimed by criticism, this album brought to the group its statute of worship group. Kyuss with the chance to be helped by Nirvana and particularly by the beater Dave Grohl. They their make it possible to have a place in the round of Metallica in 1993. Oliveri leaves the group and is replaced by Scott Reeder) just at the time when the group signs on Elektra Records to leave Welcome to Sky Valley (1994), another greeted album.

Personal problems tear the group and Bjork leaves it during a round. It is replaced by Alfredo Hernandez.

In 1995 they leave … And the Circus Leaves Town. But finally Kyuss east dissolves. Man and Hernandez are found again to form the Queens off the Stone Age and recruit Oliveri as bass player later. Garcia had several projects, like Unida and Slo Burn before founding Hermano. Later Hernandez played with Fatso Jetson and Yawning Man. Cockrell later became the leader of Vic of Monte' S Idiot Prayer. Brant Bjork will leave to him in the group Scott Hill Fu Manchu a major group the Stoner-Rock'n'roll. Brant will leave Fu Manchu to create other projects later much less known. The last exit of Kyuss was in 1997, a EP of separation containing 3 songs of Kyuss and 3 of the Queens off the Stone Age.
