Kyo is a group Pop-rock'n'roll French formed in 1994.

Biography

Beginnings of the group

It is in 1994, in the college Notre-Dame de Verneuil (Yvelines), that the two brothers Fabien and Florian Dubos meet Nicolas Chassagne and Benoît Poher. They are discovered a common passion for Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Rage against the machine, Soundgarden, Radiohead, and the graphic universe of the mangas Japanese. They decide to form a group that they baptize Kyo, in homage to the universe of the mangas (Kyo being the principal hero of the manga Samurai Deeper Kyo), that they find attractive. The four boys take part then in concerts of schools, village fairs and occur in rooms of the Paris region, without real success.

In 1997, at the time of a springboard Rock'n'roll where they mix electric and acoustic formulas, they meet their future manager which obtains to them a first contract with the editions Sony. They make the first parts of David Hallyday and play in playback in one of its clips, which is worth a first recognition to them. They also write their first song, It is time , which is however not marketed.

They sign then a contract with the label Jive/Zomba France. In 2000 Kyo leaves its first album éponyme, very pop, which passes however unperceived (40 000 sold specimens).

Dedication

In 2003, Kyo leaves its second album, the way , which concludes the group the successfully, grace in particular to the duet with Sita, the way , as well as the songs Dernière dance , I run and I still bleed . The album is sold to more than one million specimens, the round which follows is well accommodated. In February 2004 leaves a DVD, Kyosphère , which recalls this round.

At the end of December 2004, leaves the album 300 lesions , which carries out honourable sales (approximately 500.000 specimens).

After 300 Lesions

In 2005, the group is devoted to the writing of songs for other artists such as Sita, Jennifer, Johnny Hallyday ( My religion in its glance ) like for the musical comedy the Sun king .

End 2005, at the conclusion of the round of 300 lesions , the group announces that it intends to make a pause before its 4th album planned for 2008, each one wanting to devote itself to personal projects. Rumors of final separation appear then, rumors contradicted by the group which affirms that it is only one provisional stop.

In 2006, the group composes and sings a song for the collective Fight Aids Monaco ( the Gold of our lives ).

Benoît Poher also composes a song for Thierry Amiel and another for Emmanuel Moire.

In 2007, the members always work on their personal projects in the new studio of the group, before finding in 2008 for the next album.

Critical

Beginning 2006, Benoît Poher causes a sharp polemic while taking left for the bill DADVSI while quoting as example of regulation of the file-swapping the censures Internet by China. This declaration shocked many defense associations of freedom on Internet, more especially as Benoît Poher never reconsidered these remarks. This silence is interpreted either as an absence of remorse or like a badly assumed support of the Chinese repressive system.
