Kwacha malawite

The Malawian kwacha (or malawite) is the currency of the Malawi since 1971. The kwacha replaced the Malawian Livre ata rate of 2 kwacha = 1 book. The kwacha (ISO 4217: MWK) is divided into 100 tambala.

The word kwacha drift of the words Nyanja and bemba meaning paddle . Tambala means cock in nyanja.

Currencies

The coins are distributed in the denominations of 1,2,5,10,20,50 tambala and 1 kwacha.

In 2006, the following denominations of the tickets of the Malawian kwacha are distributed:
  • 5 kwacha

  • 10 kwacha
  • 20 kwacha
  • 50 kwacha
  • 100 kwacha
  • 200 kwacha
  • 500 kwacha

All the current tickets have the portrait of John Chilembwe on the face.
