History

In 1774, the treaty which put an end to the first Russo-Turkish war (1768 -1774) there was signed between the sultan Abdülhamid Ier and Catherine II of Russia. The Russia obtained the septentrional part of the Black Sea (Azov, Kertch, the mouth of the Dniepr, districts of Kouban and Terek), the right of free navigation at sea Noire and in the Straits and protectorate on the orthodoxe Christians of the Ottoman Empire. Moreover, the the Crimea was recognized independent. The treaty, disastrous for the Turkey, was to open the question of Orient.
