Kusudama

The kusudama (薬玉, of kusu , medicine, and of rammed , swell) is a particular form of Origami. Various paper parts are assembled between them, consues in their points, in such manner to form a spherical surface. Some kusudamas can be composed of several hundreds of parts.

In the beginning, the kusudamas were employed to contain Encens or other perfumes. Today, they are primarily used as decorative elements.

The kusudama is also a precursor of the modular Origami. It is not however a particular form of origami modular in the sense that the various components are consus between them and not encased or not folded together.
