Kurt Brand

Kurt Brand (born the May 10th 1917 with Wuppertal, deceased the November 8th 1991 with Kaltern, in the the Tirol) is a German writer of Science-fiction. Kurt Brand published novels under various pseudonyms, of which Lars Torsten and C.R. Munro .

Biographical note

Kurt Brand grows in the German small town of Rheinbach, where it follows his schooling, reads Jules Verne and creates in 1931 and 1932 a school newspaper of which it publishes five numbers. It is in this newspaper that its first news of Science-fiction appears, Die weiße Sonne white sun ''. In 1935, at eighteen years, it proposes its first novel, Motoren donnern zum Ziel , with editors, but essuie a refusal. Its second novel, Eisberge bekämpfen die Welt icebergs with the attack of the world '', was not published because of the paper shortage caused by the beginnings of the Second world war.

For the period Nazi, Kurt Brand is soldier with Peenemünde. As he declared it later itself, Kurt Brand was undoubtedly the only author of science fictions which ever took part in the launching of the first rockets V2 in direction of the England.

In 1945, Kurt Brand is made prisoner by the Russian troops. After the war, in 1946, it moves with Cologne. It then creates one of the most important private lending libraries, with 24.000 books, and settles as independent writer. At that time, it succeeds in publishing its first novel, Türme in DER the Sahara Tours in the Sahara '', who appears with the Anker editions in 1951. The continuation, Außenstation VII explodiert orbit station VII explodes '', was published in the Alka editions in 1956.

During the years 1950, Kurt Brand has a name among the authors of the collections intended for the private lending libraries, with fantastic novels sometimes really removed from rim. The mixture of insane ideas and strange decorations associated with a very personal style of writing - which often circumvents the basic rules of German grammar - at that time causes at the same time criticisms vehement and an enthusiastic admiration. The critics however recognize in Kurt Brand the good level of its production compared to what is done generally at the time in the field of the popular novel. Between 1951 and 1959, it writes Romance blackjacks of Science-fiction and a hundred and twenty-eight novels in other kinds, of which a majority of westerns. Kurt Brand counts, at the sides Karl-Herbert Scheer, of Clark Darlton and Wolf Detlef Rohr, among the pioneers of the Science-fiction of German language of this period.

The April 27th 1962, it joined the team of Perry Rhodan. Its first contribution appears with the novel Perry Rhodan n°34, wandering It of eternity . Kurt Brand will write in very thirty-eight novels of the series Perry Rhodan. He was also the author of a book of pocket, volume 3, Schatzkammer der Sterne , and novel Atlan n°15, Die Transmitterfalle . In 1965, it finishes its last novel for the series Perry Rhodan, with the return of a outlaw . The September 10th 1965, it leaves the drafting of Perry Rhodan following a dispute with the editor. Certain sources speak even about a brawl.

After its rupture with Perry Rhodan, it develops his own series, Ren Dhark , and proposes it with the editions Kelter . Kurt Brand writes all the drafts of scenarios and fifty-three of the eighty eighteen novels which compose the series. But the series does not meet by discounted business success.

Kurt Brand signs then a contract with the editions Zauberkreis , which compete with the collections of science fiction of the Pabel editions. At that time of rupture, Kurt Brand reorientates his work towards the detective novel and launches Checkpart 2000 , a collection of the detective novels which are held in a utopian and fantastic universe. He also contributes for a good portion to the series Jerry Cotton , Kommissar X , Captain Morris , then written some stories of vampires. He reactivates on this occasion his old pseudonym C.R. Munro for all his new production of science fiction.

In 1971, Kurt Brand creates for the editions Andromada of Cologne, the series of science fiction called space Raumschiff Promet Promet '', whose complete official title was Arn Borul - Von Stern zu Stern Borul - Of star '' star. It was occupied some during one year before being scrambled with its editor and being replaced by the author of science fiction Hermann Peters. In parallel, he also writes some serial numbers of SF such as Zeitkugel temporal sphere '' and Cosmos 1999 . At the end of the years 1980, it is reconciled finally with the authors of the series Perry Rhodan and takes part, for the greatest joy of its fans, with world convention Perry Rhodan ( Worldcon Perry Rhodan ).

Kurt Brand dies the November 8th 1991 of the continuations of a serious disease at the 74 years age, in his fatherland of election, the Kaltern village in the the Tirol of the south. In 74 years, Kurt Brand will have written between 900 and 1000 novels. In small volume TERRA n°221, one can read a portrait of the author who is regularly quoted in the specialized works: The SF means more for me than simple continuation of adventures covered with a modern dress. The ancestral dream of humanity to discover new stars and to bore their mystery, is close to being carried out. But these great projects require at the same time a new type of Man, always ready to prove that it is, with final, worthy to traverse the vastness of space to reach these stars.
