Kurnass 2000
The Kurnass 2000 is a version improved by Israel of the Phantom II. Very resembling outside its groin, the Kurnass has on the other hand a rather different electronics of edge.
The F-4E Kurnass
Although being in service since 1960 in the American army, the Phantom II, the most advanced hunter of its time, arrived in Israel only in 1968. The Hebrew State adopts quickly version F-4E and Kurnass renames it (Hammer rammer?).Compared with the Mirage III, it is faster, carries more armament, has a more advanced radar and a better operating range. On board the pilot and the officer systems of weapons can be distributed the tasks more effectively.
It is largely used as fighter-bomber during the war of the '' Yom Kippour '' in 1973. During the war of Lebanon in 1982, it piles up again like hunter of SAM, releasing the sky for F-15 and the F-16.
Kurnass 2000
Entered in service in 1989, the Kurnass 2000 is a version improved of the Kurnass .
Its radar APQ-120 of origin is replaced by a APG-76 of the Norden firm. This radar is able " to see to the bottom " , which makes it possible to restore an image of the ground even under conditions of bad weather.
It adopts as a posting Kaiser head high (broader as that of origin), multifunction screens color, new computers and communication systems.
In the structure electric wiring, the tanks of gasoline and the systems hydraulic are replaced.
Lastly, it is able to draw from new ammunition with guidance TV and laser.
54 F-4E were modified in Kurnass 2000 .
Engagements
The Kurnass 2000 was engaged for the first time in Lebanon in 1991.
