Kumite

The kumite - 組手 - is the conventional combat of the Karaté. The Kanji (kumi) means “group” and the kanji 手 (you) indicates the Main, which implies the fact of working to two and not in an isolated way.

If one compares a Budō with a language, then the Kihon are the basic vocabulary, the Kata are done everything sentences and the “applications” ( Bunkai and drives with two type kumite ) are settings in practices in the current language.

The kumite is practiced with two partners. The attacks and blockings can beings definite or free. The free combat is called ju kumite .
