Kumasi

Kumasi is one of the main cities of the Ghana, capital of the area Ashanti. It is located at the center-south of the country, to approximately 200 km of road of Accra.
It counts 865.000 inhabitants (estimate UNO in 2005), which makes of it the second city of the country in terms of population. Ashantis are majority there. 80% of the population are Christian and 20% Moslem.
At the XVIII century, this city was the capital of the kingdom Ashanti which dominated a vast area located at the west of river Volta.
Kofi Annan, the seventh General secretary of the United Nations, was born here the April 8th 1938.
