Alliance Kulin is one of the nations indigenous S living in the center of the State of Victoria, close to Port Phillip and Western Port. She is located in the Great Dividing Range and the valleys of Loddon and the Goulburn of Victoria. In the east of their territory is the territory of the people Gunaï of Gippsland.

There exist 5 different languages which are spoken by two distinct groups. The group of Kulin of the east included Woiwurrung, Bunurong, Taungurong and Ngurai-illam-wurrung. The group of Westerner speaks only Wathaurung.

  • the Woiwurrung : spoken about the Mount Baw Baw in the east of the Mount Macedon, and Sunbury and Gisborne in the west. The Wurrundjeri-willam were a clan which occupied the accesses of the river Yarra and of its affluents. They were initially indicated by Europeans as a tribe Yarra . The other Woiwurrung clans include the Sailor-Bulluk , the Kurung-Jang-Bulluk , the Wurundjeri-Balluk and the Balluk-willam . From now on, the descendants of all the Woiwurrung clans prefer the term Wurundjeri to indicate them.

  • the Bunurong : spoken by six clans along the shores about the Werribee, on the peninsula of Mornington, of the Bay of Western Port to the National park of Wilsons Promontory. They were indicated by the européeens under the name of tribe of Western Port or tribe of Port Philip . The clan of the Yalukit-willam occupied the small strip of land between Werribee and Williamstown. Bunurong is from now on the term employed for designated all the people which speak this language.

  • the Taungurong : spoken in north about the Great Dividing Range, in the valley of the Goulburn of Victoria close to Mansfield, Benalla and Heathcote. Europeans spoke about them of indicating them like tribe of Goulburn . Taungurong is from now on the name under which the people of this linguistic group are designated.

  • the Ngurai-illam-wurrung : spoken by 16 clans about the people Jaara (or Jajowrong) in the neighborhoods about Murchison, in the area of the high plateaus of the center, in the east of Kyneton, the west of the Pyrenees, the Diamond fragments north and the south of the Cordillera. They were named tribe of the river indigenous Broken or of Loddon , by Europeans.

  • the Wathaurung : spoken by 15 clans in the south about the Werribee river and the peninsula about Bellarine until Streatham. One indicates them under the name of people Barrabool . The fugitive one, William Buckley, lived in their community during 32 years, between 1803 and 1835, before being found by John Batman on July 6th, 1835.
