Kuivaniemi

Kuivaniemi is a old municipality the North-West of the Finland, in the area of Ostrobotnie of North.

The commune exists since 1867, but it disappeared in 2007, attached to its neighbor of the south II, paying thus the clear fall of its population these last years and its passage under the threshold of the 2.000 inhabitants.

Geography

Kuivaniemi is a common extent and little populated, very similar to its neighbors of Lapland of the south. The breeding of the Renne S is possible but rather rare there.

The municipality is located along the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia (it counts 30 km of coast), to 73 km in the north of Oulu and 36 km in the south-east of Kemi. The village is crossed by main road 4 (E75), the North-South main axe of the country.

The commune corresponds largely to the basin of the river Kuivajoki. The frontier municipalities are II in the south, Yli-Ii in south-east, Pudasjärvi in the east, Ranua in the North-East and finally Simo in north (Finnish Lapland for the two last).
