Ksour of Tunisia
The ksour of Tunisia (rear RTL قصورالجنوبالتونسي) are primarily concentrated in the south-east of the country (in the zone ranging between Matmata and Tataouine) where one counts approximately 150 of them. These ksours belongs to the cultural heritage of this area of the Tunisia and testifies to its historical and sociological evolution. They cause a great passion on behalf of the tourists.
Classification
The ksour moved top of the mountain towards the plain according to the historical and economic needs. In all the cases, the Ksar (singular of ksour) is before a whole Grenier consisted of cells of engrangement, called Ghorfas, with the use of one or several tribes. These tribes are initially Berber S, then also Arab S as from the 7th century with the conquest arabo-Moslem woman, Tunisian south-east not having known true settlement (...) neither by the Carthaginian neither by the Roman nor by the Byzantine . After the invasions hilaliennes at the 11th century, the Berber ones are driven back in the mountains when the Arabs occupy the plains.
