Ksar

A ksar (Arab: rear RTL قصر), in the plural ksour (rear RTL قصور), is a Village strengthened which one finds with the the Maghreb.

Generally combining Attic S and dwellings, one commonly finds them on buttresses close to Oasis in order to protect from attacks coming from wandering tribes .

A ksar is composed of cells, called Ghorfas (“Arabic rooms”), which are used to store the food products in preparation for several successive years of Sécheresse.

The word ksar is borrowed from the Arab qasr (“castle”, “strengthened village”), which comes itself from the Latin castrum (“extremely” or “fortified town”). It gave the Spanish word alcázar in . In Berber, the equivalent word is agherm .
