Krzyki (Wrocław)
Krzyki - district of the south of Wrocław. The name of the district is derived from that of the district of Krzyki. Of 1743 with 1845 this village of the surroundings of Wrocław bore the German name of Kritern , then until in 1945 Krietern , which after the Second world war was transformed into Krzyki. The village was integrated into the town of Wrocław in 1928.
The current borders of the quatiers are in the west and the south Oporów, Klecina and Partynice, in north and the east Grabiszynek and Borek. The district includes/understands inter alia, the sports complex Śląsk Wrocław (a covered swimming pool and a stage of sport) as well as the agency for the protection of the animals of Wrocław. During the period of 1909 with 1945 in one of the buildings to the angle of the street Skarbowców and Wietrzna was a weather and seismic observatory ( Meteorologisches Observatorium Breslau-Krietern and Erdbebenwarte Breslau-Krietern ) founded by max von dem Borne and property of the politechnic school of Wrocław ( Technische Hochschule Breslau ). Were installed has a 3 meters depth under the surface of the ground, two seismographs of Wiechert: one vertical with a beam of 1450kg and the other horizontal one with a beam of a ton. During the years 1928 - 1929 the observatory was moved because of renovation works with Liebichshohe (today Wzgórze Partyzantów). During the seat of the city ( Festung Breslau ) in 1945, the building was completely destroyed by the bombardments. Seismographic equipment has put him out of danger, and in 1945 the professors Stenza and Olczaka extracted it from the ruins and transferred towards the seismographic station from Raciborz, where it was scrupulously renovated. In 1959 it was again transferred towards the station from Chorzów (it is there still today), and it was used there until in 1984. The ruins of the observatory of Krzyki, left without care, was still visible until in the Seventies, when, not to risk that they crumble on a passer by, they were shaven and its filled cellars.
