Krupp AG

German industrial company of the sector of the Steel directed by the family of the same name and which in particular grew rich in the manufacture by the weapons.

Origins

The founder of the company was Friedrich Krupp (1787-1826) which installed a Forge close to Essen in November 1811. It wished to produce crucible cast steel, according to the British techniques, whose price was high because of the continental Blocus.

With her death in 1826, its widow, Therese Krupp (1790-1850) take again the company helped by her son, Alfred, who at 14 years begins in economy. The expansion

Alfred Krupp (1812-1887) then made company one of the largest steel-works of the world while benefitting from the extraordinary development of steel in the railroads, the navy and the machines. Krupp produces Essieux and Ressorts of qualities. It is besides in 1875 qu ' Alfred draws the logo of his company: three axles of superimposed iron chemis. But more than the industrial achievements, they are, as from 1859, the military achievements of Canon S and shielding which allow the development of the company by introducing novel methods as the Bessemer process (introduced in 1862). Benefitting from this richness, Alfred Krupp buys mines of iron and Charbon to form a large company which employs 45.000 men in 1887.

Friedrich Alfred Krupp (1854-1902), his only son, succeeded to him. By the purchase of other companies like the naval Building site S Germania of Kiel (1896-1902), it is found in 1902 with the head of 70.000 people. He does not hesitate to make pressure to obtain orders of materials militaires.
Of 1905 to 1908, Camion S with vapor were built with the shipyards.

The XXe century

His/her daughter, Bertha Krupp (which gave its name to the Gross Bertha) then her husband Gustav Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach (1870-1950) poursuivèrent family work. But the will of Friedrich required the conversion of undertakings into public limit company (in German Aktiengesellschaft , AG), thus was founded the Fried. Krupp AG whose family preserved the majority of the capital.

In 1912 the stainless steel is developed. The company grows rich during the First World War. During the pérode the inter-war period, Gustav Krupp is joined the Nazis what enables him to receive important government orders: In 1919, the production of trucks with Moteur with Essence began with one 5 tons with Transmission with chain. In 1925, the company manufactured trucks of 1.5,2, and 5 tons. and also a Tractor with Cap of 10 tons payload, with a traditional tansmission. In 1930, the first models with advanced Cabine appeared in versions of 4x2 and 6x4. In 1932, the firm built engines Diesel S Junkers Deux-temps with opposite Pistons. Also the company employs 190.000 people in 1939.
Enfin her son Alfred Krupp von Bohlen (1907-1967), S since 1931, directed the company. Alfred arrives at the head of Krupp during the Guerre.

Krupp after the war

1944 to 1950, the production of trucks had to be rehoused temporarily with Kulmbach to make it possible the firm to rebuild its factory which was destroyed by the bombardments of the Second world war. Also the Krupp company took the name of Sudwerke for this transitional period. But Alfred Krupp was Arrété, considered then discharged, and leaves finally free in 1951. He takes however the care to delegate the management of the firm to Berthold Beitz in 1953.

In 1951, new ranges of trucks was launched: Cyclop, Gigant, Buffel of 5.5 tons and Titan of 8 tons. In 196, trucks with caps and cabins over engine, and propelled by two-stroke Krupp diesels with water cooling of 3,4,5, and 7 cylinders, with powers going from 132 to 310 Horses, were proposed with the name of series: 701,801,901,1001 and 1051.

Also the company, Krupp follows the German economic miracle and becomes again a gigantic company passing from 12.700 people in 1951, to 107.000 in 1960. In 1963, the firm offered the diesel engine Cummins, on trucks of the names of: 760 4x4, 360 6x6, and 1060, with models of building sites, series MK 4x2 and AMK 4x4, for payload of 18,23,30 tons and 43 tons with Trailer. Also it was the first industry of the EEC. In 1967, Krupp introduced a mobile Grue name of Mobilkran 14 GG, with a cabin over engine, including/understanding two driver's cabs, to lead the Véhicule and the other for directed the crane on the building sites. Of a capacity of 16 tons and 30 Meter S top. And also a new road tractor 4x4 with a V8 engine of 265 horses.

But the economic recession of the years 1966-1967 made lose control with the family. In 1968, the firm yielded the distribution network and the factory of truck to Mercedes-Benz. After the death of Alfred, his son, Arndt (1938-1986), renonça with its heritage and Fried. Krupp AG becomes Fried. Krupp GMBH whose Shah of Iran acquires 25% of the shares in 1976. Also in 1972, the firm took part in the construction of the Stade of the Olympic Games of Munich by providing the roof out of steel.

The coal mines are yielded and of Restructuration S in reorganizations, the company acquires Hoesch AG and becomes in 1992 Fried. Krupp AG Hoesch-Krupp . Finally in 1997, the company amalgamated with its old competitor Thyssen to form ThyssenKrupp AG.

The family of industrialists of the film Damnés, of Luchino Visconti, is a direct allusion to Krupp.
