Krupanj

Krupanj , in Serb Cyrillic Крупањ, is a city and a municipality of Serbia located in the district of Mačva. In 2002, the city counted 4.912 inhabitants and the municipality of which it is center 20.192.

The town of Krupanj is located at the confluence of the rivers Bogoštica, Čađavica and Kržava, which meets to form the Likodra, which itself is thrown further in the Jadar.

History

The city is the center of an area called Rađevina, thus named according to a knight who fought at the sides of the prince Lazar and which defended it against the Hungarian and Othoman .

The name of Krupanj is mentioned for the first time in 1417. With the Middle Ages, it had important money mines and was attended by merchants of Raguse. In 1459, it fell to the hands from the Othoman , as the remainder of the Serbia.

The town of Krupanj was released first once during the First revolt Serb against the Turks, in 1804, by the men of Đorđe Obradović " Ćurčija". The Othomans definitively withdrew in 1862.

In 1941, the city was one of the centers of transitory the République of Užice. It was entirely burned by the Germans.

The church of Dobri Potok (Dobropotočka crkva) near the city is mentioned for the first time in 1528 in the Turkish files; it is the oldest church of the area of Podrinje.

The church of the Holy Rise, in the center of the city, was built in 1842.

The Monastery of Tronoša and the village of Tršić preserve the memory of Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, which, at the 19th century, was one of the large reformers of the Serb language.

Near Krupanj, Mačkov kamen is a small station of winter sports.
