Krok or Croc of Bohemia is a legendary character of the history of Bohemia. He appears for the first time in the " Chronique" of Cosmas of Prague, written at the beginning of the 12th century. In this account, it is presented like the successor of Cech but also like the founder of monarchy in Bohemia and the first legislator of this kingdom.

According to the legend, after the death of Čech, the government was proposed with his/her brother Lech. This one refused and advised Krok , the chief of a powerful clan. Krok accepted the proposal. On the tomb of Cech, it accepted the stick of its predecessor like his hat. It settled with Budeč.

Krok was versed in sorcery. He consulted the Gods. He learned that he was to find a place surer to reside. He thus sent messengers so that they find this site. He found it on Right Bank of the Vltava in the middle of a thick forest. The castle built on these rocks accepted the name of Vyšehrad, i.e. the high castle .

Krok had three girls:

  • Kazi, a herbalist and healer.
  • Teta which could speak with the spirits, and requested the gods.
  • the princess Libuše, youngest of the sisters, who was wise and right.

One can say that the figure of Krok approaches others " donors of loi" legendary of the Slavic countries at the time medieval, like Krak (Poland), Kij (Russia kievienne), and Klukas (Serbia).

František Palacký ensured that the figure of Krok would be influenced by the historical character: Samo of Bohemia .
