Kraft Foods
Kraft Foods () is an American group of the agro-alimentary sector, particularly in the coffee and the chocolate, and present in many countries. The group is n°2 world the food one and drink after Nestlé. It appartienait (until March 30th, 2007) with the consortium Altria, itself holder of a very great number of companies of various strong sectors.
The group, whose world seat is established with Northfield, in the banlieu of Chicago, is chaired by Irene Rosenfeld.
Kraft is present in more than 150 countries. In France, the group markets its products under many marks.
The parent company of Kraft Foods, at the time Philip Morris, amalgamated the Kraft company with the company General Foods.

In 2004, Kraft carried out a world turnover of 33,168 billion dollars.
Krafts Foods France carried out 1,020 billion euros of turnover with: 1,500 collaborators, and has 6 factories: a chocolate factory with Strasbourg (Milka, Coast of Gold, Suchard), a factory of coffee torrefaction with Lavérune close to Montpellier (Black Chart, Jacques Vabre, Grand' Mother), another factory of coffee torrefaction with Liege in Belgium (Jacques Vabre, Grand' Mother) and three factories of decaffeinization (Strasbourg and Le Havre).
For 2006, affected by the blaze of the prices of packing and the raw materials, it announces a world plan of: 8,000 suppressions of employment to remain in international competition and to carry out an objective of a billion euros of economy per annum. Its last plan had resulted in the suppression of: 5,500 employment.
In July 2007, Kraft Foods repurchases the cookies LU with Danone for 5,3 billion euros. The agreement not being final, no restructuring plan was still announced.

Strategic analysis
The principal problem of the group is that he faces on all his markets - products and country - a frightening competitor, the Swiss group Nestlé, n°1 world of agro-alimentary, gold according to an analyst: " the place of number two is the least comfortable, because the costs are the same ones as for the leader, but the benefit are less low ". It is thus important on behalf of Kraft Foods to be reinforced, and the repurchase of a great agro-alimentary group becomes essential. According to the financial circle, Kraft Foods would be tempted to repurchase the Cookies branch of Danone.
In a general way, the factories of the group in North America and Europe, are too numerous and in surplus production capacity, moreover it is extremely difficult in the sector of the cookies - whose group became world leader after the repurchase of Nabisco in 2000 - to develop a total product adapted to the various national markets, from where impossibility of centralizing the production and of creating a world mark.
