Koutiala

Koutiala is a city of the Mali in the area of Sikasso, chief town of circle. It is located at 140 km of Sikasso. Its surface is of 18.000 km ². Its population is approximately 130.000 inhabitants. It is the 3rd city most populated after Bamako and Sikasso.

History

Located in country Minianka, Koutiala founded about the 15th century by Coulibaly was come from the Royaume will bambara of Ségou.

In November 1955, Koutiala becomes a commune of average exercise. March 2nd 1966, Koutiala becomes a commune of full exercise.

Economy

Baptized the “capital of the white gold” because of the production of Cotton, it second industrial town of Mali with in particular the Company Malian for the development of the textile (CMDT) and cotton Oil mill of Malo (HUICOMA).

Environment

The town of Koutiala is victim of the water pollution of its backwaters and its ground water because of the rejections of the 8 factories, including three oil mills, present on its territory.

The population rises with 355289 inhabitants.
