Kounoune

Kounoune is a locality of the Senegal located at the entry of the Presqu'île of Cape Verde close to Rufisque, to 23 km of Dakar.

History

The village would have been founded by the Lébous in their migration of North towards the South-west of Senegal.

Administration

Kounoune belongs to the rural community of Sangalkam in the Département of Rufisque (Région of Dakar).

Geography

The closest localities are Ngalap, Medina Tioub, Keur Ndiaye Lo, Ndiekhirat Digue, Takh and Keur Daouda Sar.

Population

According to the PEPAM (Programme of drinking water and cleansing of the Millenium), Kounoune would count 3.050 inhabitants and 337 households.

Economy

The village shelters a thermo plant of 67,5 MW. One second power station, Kounoune II, is in project.
