The Koulountou is a river of the Senegal which takes its source in Guinea. It is an affluent of the river Gambia.

Like the Niokolo, it crosses the National park of Niokolo-Koba.

Its vast plain of flood stores water throughout the year, and this presence of water even during the dry season attracts the animals and supports a proliferation of the vegetation.
