Kotomitsuki Keiji
Kotomitsuki Keiji (琴光喜啓司) of its true name Tamiya Keiji (born the April 11th 1976 with Okazaki, in the Prefecture of Aichi -) is a fighter Japan board of Sumo. It reached the rank of ōzeki in July 2007, after having gained 35 engagements in the three preceding tournaments.
Career
Kotomitsuki had a brilliant university career in sumo, gaining 27 national titles amateur at the university of Japan. It made its professional beginning in March 1999. Because of its success as an amateur, it was allowed to him to start directly in Makushita, with the row of tsukedashi. It was promoted in the first division, the Makuuchi, in May 2000 but missed the tournament due to wound. For its return, three tournaments later, it carried out a score exeptionnel of 13 victories for 2 defeats. Rare thing: the three special prices were allotted to him. It was immediately promoted with the row of Sekiwake.Kotomitsuki gained its first and until now alone Yūshō of makuuchi in September 2001, as a Maegashira. It gained with a score of 13-2 in a tournament which saw only a ōzeki and a Yokozuna to make the fifteen days of the tournament. It since finished second (jun-yūshō) with six recoveries.
Kotmitsuki holds the record of the greatest number of tournaments passed to the row of sekiwake of the modern era. Although it gained only four combat at the time of its first passage to this row, it was there for a total of 22 tournaments, including eleven consecutive between November 2005 and July 2007. It was Sanyaku in each tournament (put aside for one) since March 2004. During the major part of this time, it did not carry out exeptionelles performences, connecting 8-7.
In May 2007, the ōzeki Tochiazuma having announced its stop of the competition, and Hakuhō having been promoted yokozuna, it had there no more that three ōzeki on the banzuke, and Kotomitsuki was a customer for promotion. It carried out one 10-5 in March then one 12-3 (jun-yūshō) in May. The association of sumō then said to him that 12 victories with the suvant tournament would ensure its promotion to him. In July 2007, Kotomitsuki gained 13 of its engagements, beating the yokozuna Hakuhō and again finishing jun-yūshō, dolphin this time of Asashoryu.
Promotion with the rank of ōzeki of Kotomitsuki is confirmed the July 25th 2007. After having missed promotion in 2002 because of wounds, Kotomitsuki was seen by its detractors like not having sufficient will and slightly too old to reach the statute of ōzeki. For comparison, the ōzeki Tochiazuma (maintanant reprocessed) is the junior by 7 months Kotomitsuki. At the 31 years and 3 months age, Kotomitsuki their proved the opposite, becoming the fighter of the modern era oldest to becoming ōzeki.
