Kostolac

Kostolac , in Serb Cyrillic Sr Костолац, is a town of Serbia located in the municipality of Požarevac, district of Braničevo. In 2002, it counted 9313 inhabitants.

History

Kostolac is located close to the old Roman city of Viminacium, an important city of the province of Mésie and the capital of the higher Mésie. The archaeological excavations put at the day an urban complex, formed of broad streets, luxurious villas, public baths and of an amphitheater. This complex was recently opened with the public.

Economy

Kostolac is in the center of a field from where one extracts from coal.

The city has two thermo plants:

  • TPP Kostolac has : 2 units - full capacity of 281 MW and production of 716 GWh
  • TPP Kostolac B : 2 units - full capacity of 640 MW and production of 3027 GWh

These thermo plants provide 11% of produced electricity in Serbia.
