Kortatu

Kortatu is a group Basque of music Punk which played of 1983 with 1988.

Presentation

Composed by the brothers Muguruza, Iñigo (Guitar) and Fermin (Song and low), and Treku Armendariz (battery), this group mixing the Rock'n'roll, the Reggae, the Ska and energy Punk made known the Basque rock'n'roll.

The group is born in 1983 with Irun, with the Basque Country. Progressively with its rise, its engagement for the recognition of the Basque Country is reinforced, and the songs in Euskara are done more. Their principal influence are the Clash, of which they take again “Jimmi Jazz” on their first album. Their album live “Azken Guda Dantza” was classified among the best concerts of the decade by the US review Maximum Rock' Roll.

Following this last concert the group separates and the Muguruza brothers will found Negu Gorriak (with Kaki Arakarazo, Mikel - bass player D Anestesia and Mikel - beater of BAP! ) and to create their label, Esan Ozenki.

Their style is directed then towards a fusion of several styles of which the rap with a strong influence of Public Enemy and a more powerful rock'n'roll.
