Korsnäs
Korsnäs is a municipality west of the Finland in the area of Ostrobotnie, on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia. The old names Finnish of Ristitaipale and Korsnääsi are sometimes mentioned but nonofficial and very seldom used today.
It is one of the three only municipalities of continental Finland to have for only official language the Swedish (others being Närpes and Larsmo). Not less than 95.7% of the population is suédophone there.
Geography
The commune is practically deprived of relief. It includes/understands a few tens of low islands of the Gulf of Bothnia. In north, a vat carries out the connection towards the island of Bergö.The remainder of the municipality is divided between Forêt agricultural S and zones (hardly 15% of the total), with the variation of the road and tourist main roads of the country.
The inhabitants divide themselves between 9 villages including 3, Korsnäs, Molpe and Harrström, concentrates more than 80% of the population.
The municipalities bordering are Närpes in the south and Malax in north and the east.
History
The 3 villages of Korsnäs, Molpe ( Moikipää in Finnish) and Harrström are mentioned as of the 15th century. The principal church is contruite with Korsnäs in 1831 by Carl Ludwig Engel.The commune is detached from Närpes only in 1887.
Today, Närpes remains a very rural commune, depending largely on the fishing, the Agriculture and the breeding of animals with Fourrure. However, after a very extremely Rural migration in the Years 1950 and 60, the population is stabilized today around 2.200 hearts.
