Korpilahti

Korpilahti ( Korpilax in Swedish) is a municipality center-south of the Finland, in the area of Finland-Power station.

Korpilahti is a emblematic commune of the area of the lakes, with the broken and preserved landscape. The forests leave only little place to the cultivated fields, and the lakes are omnipresent, nearly 200 as well as a significant share of large the Päijänne (the commune extends on its two banks). N the other hand, the population is weak, non-existent industry and the commune depends still largely on the exploitation of the forest. The commune profits from its privileged and double framework its population in summer thanks to her 2.000 houses of holidays.

The agglomeration of Jyväskylä and its industries are nevertheless sufficiently close (29 km of center in center) to make it possible certain inhabitants to work over there and maintain the Unemployment rate in lower part of 15%. Fusion with Jyväskylä remained many years being studied before being finally ratified the November 17th 2006 by the two municipal councils. Fusion was carried á end of arm by the local policies of all edges which hope to finish some with the conflicts between Jyväskylä and its municipalities bordering (in particular Jyväskylän maalaiskunta) and to start a total fusion of all the communes of this agglomeration of 160.000 inhabitants. This first Jyväskylä-Korpilahti fusion will be effective at January 1st 2009.

The commune is also known to be one of the two only points of passages from one side to another of the lake Päijanne, thanks to the bridge of Kärkistensalmi.

One finds beside the Oravivuori mount one of the reference marks of the geodetic Arc of Struve, classified with the world heritage of UNESCO.

The common neighbors are Jyväskylän maalaiskunta and Muurame in north, Toivakka in the North-East, Leivonmäki in the east, Luhanka in south-east, Jämsä in south-west, Jämsänkoski in the west and Petäjävesi in the North-West.
