Koromogae

In many Japanese institutions (schools, companies, administrations), the Koromogae (衣替え) mark change of uniform of the clothes of winter for those of summer and reciprocally.

This Japanese habit goes back to the time of Heian (784-1185). At that time, Koromogae was applied to May, April, August, September and October. From the time of Edo (1603-1867), the number of Koromogae was tiny room to two, in April and in October.

Nowadays in Japan, Koromogae is held on June 1st and on October 1st. It is characterized at the employees (Salaryman) with the change of shirts long/short sleeves.

The date of this event however is adjusted according to the areas and when the temperatures are far away from the seasonal normals. The climate of Hokkaido is for example much colder than that of Kyushu.
