Korean organization of baseball

The Korean Organization of baseball ( 한국야구위원회 in Hangûl, Korea Baseball Organization in English) is the professional league of Baseball in South Korea. The league was formed with six teams in 1982, to which two teams in 1990 were added. Each team carries the name of the company or conglomerate which controls it in the Japanese style.

History

The first match was played the March 27th 1982 between the Samsung Lions and the MBC Blue Dragons (today LG Twins) with the Dongdaemun Stadium of Seoul. At the time of the inaugural season, the six teams were:

In 1985, Sammy Superstars become Cheongbo Pintos. In 1986, the league adds a seventh team with the creation of Binggeurae Eagles to Daejeon. The OB Bears move in Seoul and divide the Jamsil Baseball Stadium with the MBC Blue Dragons.

In 1988, Cheongbo Pintos change once again owner and become Taepyeongyang Dolphins. In 1990, Ssangbangul Raiders become the eighth team of the league. They represent the area of the Jeolla of North. The same year, the MBC Blue Dragons change name to become the LG Twins.

In 1999, the league is divided into two groups, but the system is abandoned after two seasons. The season 2000 sees a new redistribution of the teams: Hyundai Unicorns start from Incheon for Suwon, while SK Wyverns take their place with Incheon. Ssangbangul Raiders disappear from the league which counts eight teams then. The last change relates to Haitai Tigers into 2001 which changes sponsor to become the Kia Tigers.
